MPs group wants health warnings on alcohol packaging

Warnings about the harmful effects of alcohol should be added to product packaging, a group of parliamentarians have recommended.

The All Parliamentary Party Group on Alcohol Misuse wants ministers to introduce health warnings on alcohol product labels similar to those on tobacco packaging to combat problem drinking.

The group also want more detailed nutritional information to be added to alcohol labels, including calorie content.

Alcohol warning 'not a nanny state measure'

"This is not a nanny state measure," Tracey Crouch MP, told Good Morning Britain, saying that her parliamentary group's proposed health warnings on alcohol labels would not be as stark as those on tobacco packaging.

The All Party Parliamentary Group on Alcohol Misuse have made 10 recommendations to the Government on how to tackle problem drinking.
