The group were on a planned trip to the Aiguille d'Argentiere, which tops out 12,800ft, when they were reported missing following poor weather on Tuesday.

The bodies were discovered by a rescue team once the weather conditions had calmed, a local official said.

Several deaths have been reported on the mountain this year, with professional guides reportedly concerned Mont Blanc is becoming a tourist "free for all", according to AFP news agency.
