The Red Cross has confirmed it has made its first contact with the Russian envoy attempting to bring aid into the Ukraine.
Meanwhile the Russian foreign ministry has been in phone contact with their Ukrainian counterparts and the Red Cross about transferring humanitarian aid into the country, Reuters reports.
