Three top Hamas commanders killed in Israeli strike

Three senior Hamas military commanders have been killed in Israeli air strike in the Gaza Strip, the Islamist militant group said.

Hamas named the men as Mohammed Abu Shammala, Raed al-Attar and Mohammed Barhoum and said they were killed in a bombing of a house in the southern town of Rafah.

Officials said that Hamas is still opposed to a compromise that would ease the closure of the territory.

Hamas officials said they were holding out in the hope of getting more concessions in the Egyptian-mediated talks.

With a temporary truce set to expire on Monday at midnight local time, a range of outcomes remain possible, including a return to fighting, an unofficial understanding that falls short of a formal negotiated deal or yet another extension in negotiations.
