Man brutally attacked in own home 'felt utterly stupid'

A burglary victim who was left with life-changing injuries after being beaten by masked men in his home told This Morning he felt "utterly stupid" after the attack.

University lecturer Paul Kohler explained it was not out-of-ordinary for the doorbell to ring at 10pm at his London home as he has four teenage daughters and "the door's always going".

Asked what was going through his mind at the time of the attack, he said, "You're totally bewildered of course and you feel totally stupid because your home is where you feel most secure, and suddenly you've let this hostile force into your home".

Mr Kohler, whose wife and children were upstairs when his attackers burst in, said, "You realise these people have started hitting, you know you've got vulnerable members of the family upstairs so you try and fight back."
