Shaun Wright has stepped down as South Yorkshire's police and crime commissioner after weeks of pressure over the Rotherham sexual abuse scandal, his office has announced.

1,400 children sexually exploited in Rotherham over 16 years

At least 1,400 children were sexually exploited in Rotherham over a 16-year period, a new report says.

The report said it was "hard to describe the appalling nature of the abuse that child victims suffered."

It said there had been "blatant" collective failures by the council who did not recognise the seriousness of the problem.
