Joan Rivers gets the star-studded farewell she wished for

Dozens of celebrities have paid their last respects to comedian Joan Rivers in Manhattan.

Hugh Jackman and the New York Gay Men's Chorus performed at the ceremony, which was also attended by stars including Whoopi Goldberg and Sarah Jessica Parker.

The pioneering 81-year-old died after suffering a heart attack during a routine medical procedure on Thursday.

The New York state health department is now investigating the circumstances surrounding Rivers' death.

Joan Rivers 'rushed to hospital in critical condition'

Actress and comedian Joan Rivers has been rushed to hospital after she stopped breathing during throat surgery, NBC News reports.

The 81-year-old is said to be in "a critical condition" in Mount Sinai hospital in New York.

She stopped breathing during a procedure at Yorkville Endoscopy, sources told NBC.

Rivers found fame in 1968 when she appeared on The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson.

She has gone on to become an award-winning talk show host, actress and author.
