Army deployed over Christmas flooding fears

The Army has been deployed to help protect flood-hit areas of Cumbria on Christmas Day amid fears of more heavy rain.

The Government's emergency Cobra committee held a meeting today as people started putting out sandbags in preparation.

Up to six inches of rain is expected in Cumbria - which has already suffered the wettest December since records began in 1910.

Soldier: Helping flood victims is just part of our job

Soldiers helping flood victims in Cumbria on Christmas Day have said it is just part of their job.

One told ITV News: "Normally we spend Christmas at home with our own families.

"This year, we are helping other people, helping them get back on their feet. It's just one of those, isn't it."
