Police have recovered a car bumper believed to belong to Russell Sherwood, a 69-year-old man who went missing during Storm Angus in South Wales on Sunday.
The bumper bears the registration of Mr Sherwood's vehicle, officials said.
Officers resumed the search on Tuesday and said they would focus their attention on the River Ogmore, specifically the area near the dipping bridge.
Superintendent Simon Davies of South Wales Police said: "This remains a difficult search in very testing conditions. The river is very swollen and fast flowing, and as such specialist officers with specialist equipment are conducting the search.
"The conditions at the search area remain treacherous and while we understand that people want to assist in helping to find Mr Sherwood, we would strongly advise the public to stay clear of the area."
A windy day across the UK with sunshine in the north and cloud in the south.
Homeowners and businesses affected by the severe weather are being advised to contact their insurer as soon as possible.
Tuesday will be a largely cloudy day with some showers and highs of 12 Celsius (54F).
