A car thought to have been connected to a burglary in which an 83-year-old woman was critically injured has been eliminated from the police investigation.

Detectives from the PSNI’s Serious Crime branch say they are continuing to follow “a number of lines of enquiry” connected to the attempted murder in Aughnacloy.

Three other burglaries across the Aughnacloy, Ballygawley and Seskinore areas of Co Tyrone are also believed to be linked to the incident on 23 January.

Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell said: “A silver Ford Focus with false registration 06 WX 6313 - which we initially thought was connected to the burglary - has now been eliminated from the investigation.”

He added: “We will continue to investigate this appalling incident and I would appeal to anyone who has any information about the burglaries to contact detectives in Dungannon.

“We have set up an incident room in Dungannon to deal with any information.”
