A man has been taken to hospital following a punishment-style assault in east Belfast.

The 23-year-old was attacked near the Comber Greenway at 6.30pm on Tuesday.

Around "six to seven" men carrying hammers, bats and knuckledusters were involved, a police spokesperson said.

His injuries are not believed to life threatening.
