NI basks in sunshine as ‘heatwave’ hits

Temperatures well into the 20s are expected throughout the week as Northern Ireland enjoys the heatwave bringing holiday hot spot weather to the UK and Ireland.

The mercury looks set to hit 25C in parts of Northern Ireland mid-week, while London is expected to see the warmest weather at around 29C – in line with parts of southern Spain.

Met Office forecaster Mark Foster said: “There is a fairly good chance we will see the hottest day so far. There is a chance it could possibly be tomorrow.”

The highest temperature recorded in the UK so far this year was 29.1C at St James Park in central London on 19 April.

The top temperature in Northern Ireland was 25.3C in Castlederg in Co Tyrone on 29 May.

Met Éireann is also expecting a prolonged period of fine, dry weather across the Republic of Ireland, with temperatures likely to reach the mid or high 20s by mid-week.
