Shop worker injured in Co Londonderry armed robbery

A shop worker has been struck on the head and threatened at knifepoint during a robbery in Strathfoyle village in Co Londonderry.

The incident happened at a shop on Temple Road at about 9.30pm on Saturday.

The injured employee had to be treated by paramedics at the scene, while other staff members escaped injury but were left badly shaken.

The two masked men who carried out the robbery fled on foot with a sum of cash.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area to contact them on 101, or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

PSNI Detective Sergeant Brian Reid said: “Both suspects are described as being approximately 5ft 9ins tall and wore dark-coloured clothing.

“One of the suspects was reported to have been wearing a beige-coloured flat cap.”

A 42-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and remains in custody assisting police with their enquiries.
