Coleraine and Linfield kick off Premiership with victories

The Irish Premiership kicked off on Saturday afternoon with last season’s runners up Coleraine claiming a 3-0 victory over Warrenpoint.

Meanwhile Linfield started as they mean to go on, with a win at Mourneview Park. An on target shot from Daniel Kearns meant the Belfast Blues beat Glenavon 1-0.

Full time at the Oval saw Glentoran lose 1-2 to Cliftonville.

It’s been a busy summer for the Reds who fought back in the second half after a goal from John McGuigan in the 34th minute.

After an equaliser from Joe Gormley, Cliftonville’s Jay Donelly secured the win scoring the team’s second goal of the match.

Ballymena triumphed as goals from William Faulkner and Tony Kane got the season underway with a 2-0 win away to Dungannon Swifts.

The match between the two newly promoted sides, Institute and Newry City, saw Irish League football return to the Brandywell Stadium. Institute striker Michael McCrudden scored the only goal of the match in the 17th minute to win 1-0 against Darren Mullen’s side.
