Mixed results for Welsh sport

Yesterday the Bluebirds welcomed West Ham to the Cardiff City Stadium, and after losing to Liverpool in the Carling Cup final last weekend Malky Mackay's side were keen to bounce back to winning ways.

It was never going to be easy for the Bluebirds taking on the team lying second in the Championship table. And it wasn’t the result they were hoping for. With two goals from the visitors, West Ham won the game.

Meanwhile Swansea went to Wigan on Saturday with only victory in mind. The Swans looked threatening and eventually took the lead with a brilliant strike by Gylfi Sigurdsson. The Iceland international was a man on form, doubling the lead after the break with a 25-yard free kick. The final score was Swansea 2-0 Wigan.

In the Blue Square Bet Premier, Wrexham were away at Kettering. They won one-nil. And Newport County were at Southport - they drew one-all.

There were mixed fortunes for our Welsh regions in the Rabo Direct Pro 12. The Dragons lost at home to Munster, despite a try from Captain Ashley Smith. The final score was 24-14.

It was a good result for the Scarlets - they beat Connacht by an impressive 38 points to 10.

The Blues also beat Treviso by 20 points to 13.

Not such a good result for the Ospreys though - they missed out on victory against Glasgow.

The Cardiff Devils got off to a flying start with four goals in a row in their weekend game. Braehead Clan did catch up but it wasn't enough for a win. The final score was 3-4 to the Devils.
