I understand the report by the Assembly's Standards Commissioner, Gerard Elias QC, into the recent incident involving Llanelli AM Keith Davies is being published tomorrow. I also understand that Keith Davies isn't challenging any of the Commissioner's findings.
I gather the Commissioner has found that the code of conduct for Assembly members HAS been breached and that the case HAS BEEN referred to the Standards Committee, which decides whether or not to take action.
It's most likely that action would be a censure motion in the Assembly although the committee does also have the power to suspend an Assembly member.
The Standards Committee has already met and decided what to do although what that something is not yet clear. It may become clear tomorrow if the motion for debate is made public although we may to wait until Thursday for full details. Then Assembly members decide whether or not to back that action in a debate which will take place next Wednesday (16th May)
Once that aspect has become clear, the Labour Group of AMs will also meet to decide whether or not there should be any disciplinary action at a party level. At its most extreme that could involve withdrawing the party whip from Mr Davies.
Welsh Labour wouldn't make any comment this evening, saying it would be inappropriate to do so until the report has been published.
