The Ministry of Defence says a soldier from 1st Battalion Welsh Guards and an airman from the Royal Air Force were killed yesterday in the Lashkar Gah province of Afghanistan. The British servicemen were providing security for a meeting with local officials near the patrol base Attal. It's not known if the attackers were insurgents dressed as Afghan police or disaffected officers. It brings the number of UK military deaths in Afghanistan to 414. Families of the servicemen have been informed and have asked for a period of grace before more details are released.

Sadly, it is my duty to confirm that a soldier serving with 1st Battalion Welsh Guards and an airman from The Royal Air Force have been shot and killed in the Lashkar Gah district of Helmand province. The thoughts and condolences of everyone serving in the Task Force are with their families and friends.
