Man dies after being trapped in a trench in Pembrokeshire

A man has died after being trapped in a trench in Pembrokeshire. An operation has been underway at a new development site in Station Road, Letterston, throughout the day to try and free the 54-year-old. It happened at around 10:10 this morning.

A joint investigation has now been launched, and police will work with the Health and Safety Executive.

A Dyfed Powys Police spokesperson said:

Pembrokeshire officers have been in attendance at an incident at a new housing development site in Station Road, Letterston throughout the day, where it was reported that a man became trapped in a ‘trench’ at about 10:10 this morning. All emergency services were at the scene working on a delicate operation to free the man. We can now confirm that a 54 year old local man tragically died. Police and the Health and Safety Executive are now carrying out a joint investigation into the circumstances. Next of kin have been informed and HM Coroner for Pembrokeshire has also been informed.”**
