There was disappointment for Nicole Cooke this afternoon as she finished in 31st place in the women's road race.
But, it was her colleague Elizabeth Armitstead who stole the limelight as she cycled into second place securing Team GB's first medal of the London 2012 games.
Treacherous conditions on wet roads led to a more cautious race. Cooke, who has struggled for form since 2008 when she won the world title, failed to keep pace on the first ascent at Surrey's Box Hill.
This afternoon's result will no doubt be somewhat of a bitter pill to swallow for the Vale of Glamorgan cyclist after she and Armitstead had a public falling out after last September's World Championships. Armitstead was nominated team leader but accused Cooke of riding "for herself" after a disappointing result.
