First Minister Carwyn Jones has been made a member of the Gorsedd of the Bards. During a ceremony at the National Eisteddfod he was received in the blue druidic robes worn by those recognised for their achievements in law, science, sports, journalism, media, and local or national activities. The First Minister's fellow new honorary druids include rugby's Shane Williams and the footballer John Hartson.
– Carwyn Aman Ogwr (First Minister Carwyn Jones AM)
This has been a truly special day for me and my family. It is a great honour to be called to the Gorsedd and be recognised alongside individuals who have achieved so much in their respective fields.
The First Minister has adopted the bardic name Carwyn Aman Ogwr, reflecting his family's roots in the Amman Valley and the River Ogmore in his Bridgend constituency.
