Over the past few days we have been focusing on the lives of individuals who have been nominated for the Daily Mirror Pride Of Britain Local Hero Awards 2012.
Yesterday, we have heard the extraordinary story of Mark Williams whose life went through turmoil after his wife suffered Post Natal Depression, and then he himself became depressed.
Today, we hear why Chris Dunlop from west Wales is up for the award.
Alex Dunlop, who served in the army for 15 years, nominated his mother Chris because of all the work she does for Combat Stress, a veterans' mental health charity. Alex says he was discharged after suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and problems with his spine.
Chris lives in Pembrokeshire and Alex lives in Northern Ireland. She raises the money for the charities as she says she isn't there to support Alex in person.
Chris Dunlop told ITV Wales that she was "embarrassed" when she learned of her nomination but she's "very proud" of him, and is sorry she "can't find a way of helping him so that he is better."
