Defensive headaches for Cardiff ahead of Derby trip

Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay has a defensive dilemma on his hands for tonight's trip to Derby - a game which could see the Bluebirds stay top of the Championship table.

Cardiff were forced to hang on with 10-men during Saturday's 1-2 win at Barnsley thanks to the dismissal of full back Simon Lappin for a second yellow.

And that has left Mackay with a full-back headache with usual replacements Kevin McNaughton and Andrew Taylor also both sidelined, through injury.

Mackay will also have to make a decision on the role striker Craig Bellamy will play in the match following his return to action, having been limited to substitute appearances of late.

The Bluebirds claimed their first away win in over a month on Saturday as they held on to a 1-2 lead at Barnsely to return to the top of the table and will head into tonight's clash with a strong recent record against the Rams.

Cardiff have lost just once in eight meetings with the Rams and have not dropped a point in their last four clashes. That run includes a 6-1 win at former ground Ninian Park.
