Rain moving in, wind not far behind

From fine and sunny, to wet and windy, then back again all in the space of 48 hours. It's a topsy turvy weather pattern at the moment.

Tonight temperatures drop like a stone, down to -4C in places. During the night cloud and eventually rain arrives in the far west. This is cause temperatures to rise as milder air arrives. This should stop the rain falling as snow, however, with rain falling on such cold surfaces we could see icy stretches develop.

Thursday sees a cold and grey start to the day and turning increasingly wet. As the day progresses the rain pushes southeast. It will turn heavy up on the western hills. It will be milder than today, although it's unlikely to feel that way particularly as strong winds increasing to gales develop around the coast.

As it stands we're expecting this rain to remain as rain, however, this is a borderline situation. There may be wintry falls on higher ground and it would only take a small change in conditions to see more widespread snow.

Friday sees sunny spells and showers with a brisk breeze then high pressure will settle the weather down over the weekend.
