It's not a crisp, cold and bright start to the day... rather it's a dull and dreary one, but it's still cold and it will be turning increasingly wet. As the day progresses the rain pushes southeast. It will turn heavy up on the western hills. It will be milder than today, although it's unlikely to feel that way particularly as strong winds increasing to gales develop around the coast.
As it stands we're expecting this rain to remain as rain, however, this is a borderline situation. There may be wintry falls on higher ground and it would only take a small change in conditions to see more widespread snow.
Friday sees sunny spells and showers with a brisk breeze then high pressure will settle the weather down over the weekend.
