Caerphilly man scoops £1m Lottery win

A young man from Caerphilly has won a life-changing sum of money on the National Lottery.

Alun Jones, 27, scooped £1,135,578 on the Lotto Jackpot after buying a lucky dip ticket online.

Alun, who lives with his parents, says he's planning to use some of his new found wealth to treat his mum to a brand-new kitchen.

He told ITV Cymru Wales that he didn't expect to win such a sum:

But the money really is life-changing - after discovering he'd won, he decided to leave his job at a local firm in Nantgarw to think about his future.

He's also going to treat himself to a new car to save him borrowing his mum's to get around.

The money will mean I can get a bit more independence including a new car, I’ve always quite fancied a Mercedes! I’m also hoping I can start to look for a new house without worrying about struggling to pay a mortgage.

When he found out he'd won, Alun said it took some time to convince his parents about the news.

When I told my parents I’d won my mum burst into tears, but my dad took a little more convincing as he knows I’m a bit of a joker!

– Alun Jones

He's already celebrated the win with friends, and is hoping to spend some of his winnings following the British Lions to Australia on their 2013 tour.
