The Swansea girl who became a Swedish princess

Tributes have been paid to Princess Lilian, both in Scandinavia and in Swansea where she was born, after her death at the age of 97.

She became a much-loved member of the Swedish royal family, after marrying Prince Bertil, the third son of the King of Sweden.

Theirs was a much-celebrated love story, after they met during the Second World War, but did not marry until 1976, as she was a divorced commoner and he in the line of succession to the throne.

She was born in South Wales in 1915, and moved to London in her teens.

She was treasured for her beauty and grace later in life.

News of her death has prompted an outpouring of affection both in Sweden and back in South Wales.
