A campaign has been launched by a group of Labour politicians to make sure Accident and Emergency and specialist services continue to be provided by the Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Llantrisant.

Labour MPs Chris Bryant and Owen Smith have joined Assembly Minister Leighton Andrews and backbencher Mick Antoniw to form a local alliance to respond to the consultation process launched by South Wales local health boards to reconfigure health service provision in South Wales.

Pontypridd AM Mick Antoniw says although the group accepts the need for change and reconfiguation, they will be putting forward a positive and constructive case to save the hospital

The campaigners are concerned that if A&E services are axed from areas like Rhondda, it will mean patients will have to travel to Cardiff, leading to greater congestion around the University of Wales Hospital at the Heath.
