The Met Office said there could be up to 25mm of rain locally but it could top 40mm at higher levels. It will remain windy overnight, with further heavy showers persisting in many parts. This will help keep temperatures up, leading to a mild, frost free night with a minimum temperature of 7 °C.
Tuesday will be less windy than Monday but still blustery in many areas. Showers may be on the heavy side, these mainly in the north and less frequent than they were on Monday. There will be some sunny spells too. Maximum temperature 10 °C.
Generally the weather becomes less unsettled as the week goes on.
The Met Office warned of the dangers of waves crashing onshore and overtopping seafronts and issued Yellow Warnings.
