Swansea City have now secured another season in the Premier League after a convincing 4-1 win over Aston Villa. The high point of the match had to be the blistering goal that torpedoed off the boot of Jonjo Shelvey . The 21 year old belted it from the edge of the centre circle. It soared over the heads of the visitors and landed deftly behind the goalkeeper who like everyone else , didn't see it coming.
But Aston Villa Boss, Paul Lambert defended his team's performance.
Shelvey's goal was certainly being talked up by the cognoscenti on twitter as being comparable to Wayne Rooney's goal against West Ham and in the running to be named goal of the season.
But , either way, it was something that cheered up former Swans Midfielder, Ferrie Bodde who'd been battling pneumonia and had been put in an induced coma for four days by medical staff.
Bodde out of the coma. Spokesman said he'll be watching the Swansea Villa game from his hospital room. That goal a decent pick-me-up
And there was a lovely tip of the hat to Ferrie Bodde. In the sixth minute of the game , The Liberty stadium crowd stood and applauded the Dutchman . Many of the crowd might remember a similar long range goal from Bodde against Preston in 2008.
Two of the four goals were scored by Wilfried Bony , the second in the final minutes of the game when Aston Villa conceded a penalty. The fourth goal was booted in by Pablo Hernandez in the 73rd minute.
The Swans now are on 39 points but it's Garry Monk's target for the team to finish as high in the table, as possible, ending the season on a positive note for the fans .
The Swans play Southhampton next week at home and travel to Sunderland for the last game of the season.
