ITV News Wales wins special award for RNLI coverage

ITV Wales is set to receive a special award from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) in recognition of its coverage of the charity’s lifesaving work.

We were named national winner in the charity's Media Relations category, with praise for our coverage of human interest stories, beach safety, rescue stories and fundraising appeals.

It’s been an exciting year for the RNLI in Wales with four new all-weather lifeboats and four new stations.

Through its impartial high quality news coverage, ITV has turned the spotlight on these and other initiatives because they are newsworthy and of clear interest to viewers.

Special praise has been given to north Wales journalists Carole Green and Rob Shelley.

Carole and Rob will attend the awards ceremony in London.

The RNLI has many amazing stories to tell. The pictures are dramatic, there’s human interest, and there’s that volunteer commitment and professionalism.

As a TV journalist, the RNLI is able to offer us all the ingredients of a great story.

The crews are volunteers yet they’re so slick, professional and well-trained. There’s a big investment on their part in giving their time. The RNLI is never far away – it really strikes a chord with our viewers.’
