Welsh Rugby Union survives EGM 'no confidence' vote

The Welsh Rugby Union has survived a vote of no confidence at an Extraordinary General Meeting this afternoon... the first for seven years.

Representatives from more than 200 Welsh clubs attended

Only four club representatives voted to oust the regime after WRU's former Chief Executive David Moffett prompted the vote. But the board acknowledged some things need to change.

Mike Griffiths** was there.

39 clubs and four regions backed Moffett's bid for the EGM

"It's up to the clubs once again.

If they don't get any change, out of some of the issues that obviously they were encouraged to speak out about then it's their fault. I mean... they're the only ones that can implement change. Nobody else can. I can't

– David Moffett

It's been a dark day, instigated by a very very small minority of people, and the reason I emphasise that, hundreds and hundreds of men and women supported the Welsh Rugby Union today.

We only had four people against us in that vote of no confidence, and the rest, hundreds, supported the Union. And that is the true reflection of where we are in Wales today.

– Roger Lewis, Chief Executive, WRU
