Beano comic artist Kev F Sutherland gives masterclass for Porthcawl children

A famous comic artist has been in Porthcawl today telling youngsters about some of his tricks of the trade.

Kev Sutherland is a writer and artist for The Beano and Doctor Who comics.

Kev helps the children design their own comic

He's been teaching schoolchildren how to draw their favourite cartoon characters and devise some of their own!

Mike Griffiths went along to see him in action.

Kev hopes the workshop will encourage children to draw more and develop a love of storytelling.

The best thing about running workshops like this is finding out kids can do this as well as I can.

Making a comic is a bit like making a movie, except you don't need two hundred million dollars, you don't need to cast Johnny Deep, you don't need to blow things up!

You just need pencil paper and pen, and you've got exactly the same tools as the professionals. And every kid suddenly discovers they can do it themselves!
