An area of of the Brecon Beacons has been recognised by UNESCO for its outstanding geology and heritage. Fforest Ffawr covers three hundred square miles to the west of the national park, and takes in mountains, moorland, lakes and waterfalls.
Only seven areas in the UK have been granted Global Geopark status.
Global Geoparks are a protected landscape of international geological significance. Great importance is put on preserving the environment as well as promoting the area.
