Global recognition for Brecon Beacons Geopark; Fforest Fawr named Global Geopark by UNESCO

An area of of the Brecon Beacons has been recognised by UNESCO for its outstanding geology and heritage. Fforest Ffawr covers three hundred square miles to the west of the national park, and takes in mountains, moorland, lakes and waterfalls.

Only seven areas in the UK have been granted Global Geopark status.

We've got about half a billion years of earths history wrapped up in these landscapes and those are fantastic stories and what we want to do is share them with the world

Global Geoparks are a protected landscape of international geological significance. Great importance is put on preserving the environment as well as promoting the area.
