Toyota invests £7m to build new hybrid engines in Deeside

Toyota is to build next generation hybrid engines at its Deeside plant in north Wales for a future Toyota crossover model.

The car will be based on the company’s C-HR concept vehicle.

The new engine production bring with it an extra £7m in investment by Toyota Motor Europe, which includes grant support of more than £700,000 from the Welsh Government.

The decision helps secure existing jobs at the plant, says the company.

Deeside was chosen to be Toyota’s first plant in Europe to manufacture a hybrid engine and we are proud to have delivered on that opportunity and to have now been selected to build this next generation hybrid engine.

On a visit to Toyota’s plant on the Deeside Enterprise Zone today, Edwina Hart, Minister for Economy, Science and Transport said:

"The new engine is the latest generation of Toyota’s world-leading hybrid powertrain technology and will play an important role in Toyota Motor Europe’s ambitions for increasing hybrid vehicle sales."

The car will be built at Toyota’s factory in Turkey.
