The new learning materials, including online videos, aim to make it less stressful for parents when helping out with things like maths homework.

Whilst all subjects are important for children, numeracy is particularly so.

In the international rankings Wales is behind all other parts of the UK when it comes to maths, and although this summer we have seen an improvement in our A-level results, there's still a lot to be done.

I think that we've been working hard on numeracy and literacy over the last few years, it's been a real focus in schools and I think the GCSE results this year for example show that progress has been made.

Certainly it's always a pressing issue for teachers, schools always have numeracy at the forefront of their action planning, and we know that it's something that Estyn and local authorities are looking closely at.
