Plaid Cymru kicked off its election campaign today with leader Leanne Wood vowing to defend Wales in Brexit negotiations.

The party did not gain any extra seats in the 2015 poll and with pressure mounting for electoral progress, Ms Wood joined supporters in Bangor to launch their campaign to get more voters on their side. High on Plaid's election priorities, defending Wales' position in negotiations to leave the EU.

Our nation stands at a defining point in our history. In Westminster, we have an increasingly right-wing Tory party in government, hellbent on pursuing reckless social and economic policies.

Meanwhile, the Labour Party is too weak and divided to prevent the Conservatives from doing their worst to Wales.

Plaid Cymru kicked off its campaign today with a strong and clear message - only a large team of Plaid Cymru MPs can defend our nation from further privatisation, more cuts and an ever weaker economy.

With the Tories threatening a historic victory, let's send a historic message to Westminster that our nation will not roll over for the Tories and Wales will not be put up with being ignored or neglected.

– Leanne Wood, Plaid Cymru leader

Ms Wood said many people are very angry with how Brexit is playing out, despite Wales overall having voted to leave.
