Hundreds attend Cardiff's 12th 'Festival of Chariots'

Hundreds of people are attending the Festival of Chariots (Ratha Yatra) Parade taking place in Cardiff today.

The Ratha Yatra is celebrated in 500 cities across the world and is an ancient spiritual festival originating from Sagannath Puri in India.

This is the 12th year that the festival has been celebrated in Wales' capital.

The event in Cardiff includes a large procession through the city centre and festival with drama, music, dance, meditation and a free vegetarian feast in Bute Park

Today's festival is based on an acient Indian festival which has been going on for thousands of years, so you could say this is the oldest street party in the world. It's the one day of the year where the deities come out from the temple and go amongst the people.
