Former Wales Dragonhearts full back Scott Bessant is in intensive care after he was discovered with serious injuries at around 5.15am on Sunday (13th August).
A member of the public found him lying on Pentwyn Lane in Pontypool, next to a cycle path.
The 34-year-old is currently in hospital with life changing injuries and remains in intensive care in a stable but critical condition.
Gwent Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
During his rugby career, Bessant played for Newport Titans and Torfaen Tigers, leading to his Dragonhearts caps.
He was once in contention for a place in the Celtic Crusaders squad, which was cut short due to illness at the time. He went on to coach the Titans and has since been on the Tigers coaching staff.
