Michael Sheen has made an impassioned plea for the First Minister to show "brave leadership" in supporting Wales' homelessness problem.

The actor and campaigner spoke to ITV Cymru Wales as part of our week-long, in-depth look at homelessness.

He told our Correspondent Rob Osborne that Wales needed Carwyn Jones to show "strong leadership" to tackle the growing problem.

If you are not prepared to stand up and show brave leadership about supporting the most vulnerable and marginalised people in our society... then who is? Who's speaking for that Wales?

– Michael Sheen

The actor said it was "incredibly concerning" that the Welsh Government was considering cutting the Supporting People programme.

The Welsh Government has said that no decision has been made on the future of the Supporting People programme and that they are committed to tackling homelessness

As the First Minister made clear yesterday, no decision has been taken on the Supporting People programme.

Over the summer the Cabinet Secretary announced an extra £2.1 million to help tackle youth homelessness and rough sleeping. In addition our Housing (Wales) Act has helped prevent homelessness for nearly 9,000 households across Wales.

We are very concerned at the impact of UK Government welfare reforms on homelessness in Wales while they are at the same time cutting the funds available to the Welsh Government. But we are committed to continuing to tackle this issue.

– Welsh Government spokesperson
