Plaid Cymru's leader has joined calls for an independent inquiry following the death of Carl Sargeant.

Responding to the First Minister's statement this afternoon, Leanne Wood said he had failed to address "key questions".

She echoed calls for an inquiry to be conducted in "a mature, dignified and respectful manner".

The First Minister's statement and his failure to answer questions after calling a press conference was not adequate given the gravity of this situation.

Many questions remain unanswered by the First Minister - a factor that will prolong the distress for all those involved.

The process of addressing these questions must now commence with an independent inquiry and should be conducted in a mature, dignified and respectful manner.

All of those affected by these events deserve justice, especially the family.

– Leanne Wood, Plaid Cymru leader
