With weather warnings across Wales following Storm Eleanor, a dog welfare charity has issued advice to dog owners on how to keep their pets safe during stormy weather.
Dogs Trust have provided the following tips:
- If dogs are not able to get enough exercise during the storm, owners have been advised to help them use up their energy by playing games with toys filled with food. These can be a distraction from unsettling sounds.
- If dog owners are able to leave their homes safely, they are advised to always keep dogs on a lead in case they get scared by any sudden noises.
- If dog owners are near an area that may flood, they are advised to be aware that flood water could contain raw sewage, and might be contaminated. Dogs and their owners are should keep out of the water.
- Dogs Trust say pet owners should know where their pets are at all times. If there is any risk to pets kept outside, owners are advised to ensure they have a safe shelter, or if appropriate bring them indoors.
