Arfon Haines Davies and Nicola Heywood Thomas visited ITV Wales' Cardiff Bay studio to share their memories

As we look back on sixty years of independent television broadcasting in Wales, we caught up with two of our best-known faces.

Arfon started his career with HTV in 1975 as a continuity announcer, but also fronted and produced a host of other programmes.

Arfon Haines Davies presenting continuity

HTV's announcers appeared in-vision until the early 1990s.

I was never famous - I had a familiar face!

When we did continuity, and I do mean this, if they'd have stuck a parrot there, the parrot would have been invited to open summer fetes and Christmas fairs! I'm convinced of that!

Jonathan Hill and Nicola Heywood Thomas presenting Wales Tonight in 1994

Nicola Heywood Thomas presented Wales at Six and Wales Tonight for more than fifteen years, as well presenting arts programmes and the popular series Shape of Wales.

There are still people that will say to me, you're the lady from the news aren't you? It was a long time since I did ITV Wales News!

The television programme in news terms would bring Wales together, deal with the important issues.

Never patronising, never stuffy, never needlessly serious, but taking Wales and what mattered to Wales very seriously!

– Nicola Heywood Thomas
