Residents evacuated after Denbighshire care home fire

Credit: PA

Residents of a care home are being treated for the effects of smoke inhalation following a fire.

Emergency services were called to the Plas Gwyn Nursing Home in Llanychan Ruthin just before 8pm this evening after reports of fire in the building.

Three elderly people are currently being treated in hospital.

Thankfully all the residents and staff were quickly accounted for. Three elderly residents have been taken to Glan Clwyd Hospital in Bodelwyddan suffering from the effects of smoke, but their condition is not life threatening.

There has been a significant emergency service presence this evening, but I am pleased to say that the incident was soon brought under control and the residents have been able to move back into the building which has been declared safe.

– Inspector Jason Davies of North Wales Police

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation but it is not believed to be suspicious.
