Michael Sheen and shooting victim to hand petition to Government over domestic violence law

Rachel Williams is raising awareness of domestic violence after experiencing abuse herself.

A woman who was shot by her estranged husband seven years ago is calling on the UK Government to review licenses given to perpetrators of domestic violence and make sure victims are protected.

Rachel Williams will hand in a petition to Downing Street.

The petition has already had over 100,000 signatures and Rachel's even gained support from actor Michael Sheen.

Rachel was shot by her former husband Darren in 2011

She's been raising awareness of domestic violence for a number of years and has used her own experiences to help other victims.

Rachel was shot in the leg by her former husband Darren at the hairdressing salon where she worked in Newport just six weeks after they split up.

Two women are killed every week due to domestic violence and it's been estimated to cost the public £23 billion per year.

I think basically the Government really need to take a look at domestic violence. Two women a week are being killed at the hands of the abuser. Two hundred women take their lives every year to escape an abuser and ten thousand try. They need listen to the victims voices, you know because if nobody's listening to the victims and survivors how are they going to get it right? They haven't got it right up to now so we need something else.
