Family reunited with cat four years after she went missing - after chance conversation at a bus stop

A family have been reunited with their cat four years after she went missing - and the pet was found just a mile away from their home.

Delyth Thomas, aged 56, was overwhelmed when her cat Chloe walked back into her house in Skewen.

The family moved from Ammanford to Skewen four years ago and Chloe escaped after one day, leaving them devastated.

The 56-year-old has said that the family have never given up on the hope of being reunited with their cat.

“We put posters up in the area and advertised on Facebook, we never gave up,” she said.

The cat was found by Swansea Cats Protection volunteer Mandy Hughes.

Chloe's owners were delighted to have her home

I was called to a house in Birchgrove on Monday to scan a stray cat that had been around for approximately a month. It was a surprise to find that it was chipped and she was only roughly a mile away from Delyth’s home.

In the end they thought perhaps she had been hit by a car fearing the worst. So they were absolutely thrilled to bits when I rang them.

This really only came about because an old lady I had helped in the past was catching the bus into town and started a conversation with another 93-year-old lady who told her about the stray she was feeding, who then contacted me.

So the moral of the story is ‘put your phone away and talk to the person sitting next to you’. You never know where it might lead.

Owner Delyth said that the family are over the moon.

“I still can’t believe it that Chloe has been found. My two foster sons and my daughter are delighted. Chloe recognised us all straight away,” she added.
