'One in four' in Wales are cold called at least once a week

Research by National Accident Helpline has found that Welsh residents are still suffering from cold-calls, with a quarter of people living in Wales being harassed by unwanted marketing calls at least once a week.

In a survey of over 100,000 UK residents, the survey also found that half of people living in Wales are approached by unwanted marketers at least once a fortnight.

People aged between 25 and 34 were more likely to be contacted on a regular basis than any other age group.

...these are people being bothered in the comfort of their own homes, and being tricked into giving away their contact information and in some more extreme cases, bank details.

It’s important to protect the public from scam phone calls that are intended to extort money and gather information.

– Simon Trott, Managing Director, National Accident Helpline

For the survey 7,665 Welsh residents responded to the question “How often are you cold-called?”, and the answers were as follows:

  • Never – 33% (2,530 respondents)
  • One (or more times) per day - 22% (1,653 respondents)
  • One (or more times) per fortnight – 9% (667 respondents)
  • One (or more times) per month – 15% (1,164 respondents)
  • One (or more times) per fortnight – 22% (1,651 respondents)
