The neighbour noticed an unknown man jump over a garden wall in Hurdford Place at around 11am on Friday, May 11.

When he went to investigate he was suddenly met by the man aggressively brandishing a six-inch knife.

The suspect drove off in a silver Audi A3 empty handed after failing to get into the house.

The car had a cloned number plate and distinctive alloy wheels, according to a statement by South Wales Police.

It was seen travelling down Hurdford Place to the junction of Gwern-Rhuddi Road.

This was a very frightening incident for the gentleman who was simply being a good neighbour.

For a burglar to be armed and to directly target a house like this during the day is very unusual.

The homeowner, who was out at the time, is being supported by family, friends and support agencies.

Someone out there knows who is involved and we would ask them to contact us on confidence.

The suspect is described as white, 5ft 10ins to 6ft tall, slim build, in his early 30s and was wearing a dark jacket and light coloured cap.

The owner of a similar car which has the legitimate number plate lives in England and is in no way connected to this investigation.
