Mystery creature found washed up on Gower beach baffling experts

Experts are unable to identify it Credit: Wales News Service

A mystery sea creature found washed up on a Welsh beach has left experts baffled.

The five foot long carcass was discovered on Rhossili Beach in Gower by dog walker Beth Jannetta, 41.

She snapped the mystery creature - which has a long head, giant jawline and slender tail - and passed on her pictures to experts.

I was going for a run with my dogs when I came across it. It looked like a well rotted cetacean to me.

Other people think it is something different, like a crocodile.

It would be very interesting to find out what species it is.

Marine experts were unable to immediately identify the creature - but believe it may be a whale, dolphin, or porpoise.

When you look at it the first time you may think it is a crocodile, but it is certainly not. There is a big bulge on the base of the skull which is characteristic of a cetacean.

Its jawline suggests it is like a cetacean whale or a dolphin. The jaw is thin in places and it looks from the picture like it is upside down.
