Most popular baby names in Wales revealed

The most popular baby names in Wales have been revealed by the Office of National Statistics.

Olivia and Oliver topped the list which recorded names given to babies born last year.

Oliver has been the most popular name since 2013, while Olivia first topped the charts in 2016.

The ONS published a breakdown of names by local authority, showing the favoured names in each authority across Wales.

In some areas, the most popular names featured were Welsh. In Gwynedd, Hari for boys and Efa for girls proved the most popular. While Ceredigion favoured Jac and Osian for boys.

The top 10 girls names in Wales are:

  • Olivia
  • Amelia
  • Ava
  • Isla
  • Ella
  • Emily
  • Sophia
  • Evie
  • Mia
  • Poppy

The top 10 boys names in Wales are:

  • Oliver
  • Noah
  • Jacob
  • George
  • Theo
  • Jack
  • Charlie
  • Leo
  • Alfie
  • Harry
