Christmas countdown

With many people finished in work for Christmas, shops, pubs and resturants are gearing up for a busy weekend.

Gwent Police: 34 arrests on Black Friday

A spokesperson for Gwent Police says the force made 34 arrests on Friday night, the 'vast majority' of which were for minor public order offences. Last year, 52 arrests were made in the same period.

Police officers and staff were out and about across Gwent as always keeping people safe and enforcing the law.Officers were reminding people to think about how to get home safely and where possible nipping problems in the bud before they escalated into more serious incidents.Whilst officers did deal with some public order offences the night passed with no major incidents.

Christmas safety campaign

Gwent Police and South Wales Police are launching their Christmas campaigns warning people to take care of their belongings and keep their homes secure over the festive season.

The campaign offers advice on how to stay safe over Christmas and includes tips like these:

  • Stay safe and stay with your friends (don't leave them on a night out)
  • Never get into an unlicensed taxi or minicab touting for business
  • Drink in moderation. Eat something before you go out. Take breaks and have a soft drink now and again
